Join us in welcoming Esteban Nieves!

Dear Church Family & Community,

We are pleased to announce that Esteban Nieves (also known as Estee) has accepted our invitation to serve as our Pastor of Worship Ministries.

Esteban was introduced to the congregation this morning, and he will begin serving with us on Monday, August 13. His first Sunday in this role will be August 19, at which time we will share in a consecration prayer for him in our services.

Esteban is a Lancaster native and a recent graduate of Messiah College. In May 2018 he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music (Music and Worship), a degree program that develops skills in music, theology, and the arts.

In joining our church staff, Esteban will serve in a part-time role to oversee our worship ministries. He is a gifted guitarist and vocalist, and he has experience in arranging, service planning, and sound engineering, both at Messiah College and in local churches.

While pursuing his degree, Esteban was part of Messiah College’s Seven, Powerhouse, and Worship Community, and he was also a member of Messiah College Jazz One, United Voices of Praise (the college’s gospel choir), and Messiah College Guitar Ensemble. In addition, he served at Colonial Park United Church of Christ in their contemporary evening service, and he most recently completed an internship with Grantham Church.

In reflecting on the possibility of serving at a multi-cultural church, Esteban shared, “I’ve been able to begin to understand how my Christian beliefs call me to strive for good relationships that cross the man-made barriers of race, ethnicity, economics, politics, religion, and disagreement. Growing up in a Hispanic home while being surrounded by American culture, switching to Lancaster Mennonite High School, taking theology and worship courses at Messiah College, and working at churches that were completely different than anything I had experienced before, have all pushed me to look at the world from a different perspective. A perspective that, I believe, is more Christ-like in nature because it brings people together rather than divides.”

Esteban is excited to be a part of the staff team and congregation here at HBIC, and we are excited to have him joining us. We are confident that Esteban is an excellent match for the Pastor of Worship Ministries position at our church, and we look forward to how God will use him in ministry here!

Please join us in welcoming Esteban Nieves to Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church!
