About Our Ministries

For more than 200 years, the Brethren in Christ have expressed an understanding of living in relationship to Jesus shaped by the renewal movements of Anabaptism, Pietism, and Wesleyanism. This rich blend of theological transitions is what has made the Brethren in Christ who they are today. Our ministries are not only shaped by the values of Brethren in Christ denomination but also our congregational value for racial reconciliation. Read more

Children

Creation Kids (9 & 11 am) on Sunday mornings and Kids Club on Wednesday evenings are safe, fun places where children can meet Jesus and become more like him.

Youth

Students (6th-12th Grade) can participate in Sunday School (9 am in the Large Youth Room) and Wednesday evening Youth Group throughout the school year. Both are packed full of fun, fellowship, and opportunities to grow in our relationship with each other and Christ!

Adults

If you’d like to belong and grow at the Harrisburg BIC Church, connect to a Life Group. There you can form meaningful friendships, explore the Christian faith, and grow with God together. We have Life Groups for men, women, young adults and more. In addition to Life Groups, adults can participate in a Sunday School class (9 or 11 am) or any of the activities or programs our Women’s and Men’s Ministries or Mosaics Committee host throughout the year.

Local & Global Ministries

God has placed us in our community to be His hands and feet. Learn how we share God’s Good News with our local and global communities through words and action.

Care & Equipping

We offer a wide variety of activities and programs designed to support, grow, and nurture healthy individuals and families with a Christ-centered focus. This includes…

At HBIC, we believe water baptism is a celebration of your decision to follow Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Just as the symbols of the wedding and wedding ring are a declaration of a marriage covenant, water baptism is the outward declaration of the covenant you’ve made with God. As your church, we would like to stand with you as you publicly declare you have made the decision to surrender your life to the Lord.

Baptisms are scheduled by the pastoral staff to be a part of our weekend services and include classes (for all ages) covering the meaning, the significance, and the details of baptism. Classes are generally scheduled on the Sunday preceding the weekend baptism will be offered.

If you would like to learn more about water baptism in the Brethren in Christ Church, please take a moment to read Baptism & Belonging by R. Donald Shafer.

Money touches almost every area of our lives. It can be a source of stress, or a form of blessing. The way we respond to money and handle our finances can even affect our relationship with God. We can allow money to control our thoughts and desires, pushing God aside and driving us further away from Him. Or, we can choose to trust Him with our resources, and seek to manage them His way, allowing our finances to be another way that we serve God and see His provision in our lives. This is probably why the Bible has so much to say about money. In fact, there’s more said about money and possessions in Scripture than about faith, prayer or heaven! It’s estimated that one out of every ten New Testament verses, including a third of Jesus’ parables, deals with the subject.

This class exists to offer tools and resources which assist participants in creating a God-honoring balance between wise spending, responsible saving and investing, and generous giving.

Whether you’re looking for help to overcome serious financial struggles, wisdom for planning ahead, or just hoping to learn more about what God says about money, this class is for you.

The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to provide opportunity for fellowship, to celebrate God’s healing power, and to offer help to those struggling with hurt, addiction, compulsive habits, and hang-ups by focusing on the loving power of Jesus through the recovery process. Celebrate Recovery meets every Friday evening from 7-9 pm in our Christian Education (CE) room located at the rear entrance of our building off of Greenwood Street.

Does it really matter if I’m a member or not? Why do I have to take a class to even become a member? Do I have to sign anything? People often ask these questions in the process of exploring church membership. In membership, individuals commit to a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. Members are also called to a biblical degree of responsibility, service, and sacrifice to their brothers and sisters. Leadership within a church also pledges to assist members with care, counsel, prayer, and spiritual growth.

If you are interested in learning more about membership, plan to join the pastoral staff for a two-session Membership Class that will be offered each spring and fall, following the morning worship service at 12:45 pm in the CE (Christian Education) Room.

Register: If you have interest in learning more about membership in the Brethren in Christ Church and in the Harrisburg Church in particular, sign up by contacting the church office at 561-2170 or office@harrisburgbic.org.
