Chances are, if you're checking out this portion of our web site you would either like to know a bit more about the Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church, the Brethren in Christ denomination or BOTH! It may be that you have never heard of us or the Brethren in Christ denomination before! We are not an off-shoot of a mainline congregation and you can rest assured we're not a cult (some folks worry about that sort of thing and rightly so!). The Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church has been in Harrisburg for more than 50 years. The Brethren in Christ denomination, even though it is not on the tip of most people's tongues when one thinks of Christian denominations, actually began sometime between 1775 and 1788. A unique aspect of the Brethren in Christ Church is the rich blend of theological traditions that make us who we are today. Specifically, preaching and teaching in our churches is shaped by three emphases within the wider Christian community: Anabaptism, Pietism, and Wesleyanism. |
